Our Services for Lawyers

Legal Research and Letters of Opinion

We subscribe to Westlaw in providing a legal research service based on any legal discipline under the New Zealand jurisdiction. We charge $100 per hour plus GST for this service, which includes the drafting of the final letter of opinion, to assist you in your advice to your client. Alternatively, you may just require emailed relevant PDF caselaw without the need for a letter of opinion.

There may also be disbursements included in our invoices, for which we would seek to be reimbursed for printing (@15c per page), postage or courier fees and any other disbursements that may arise such as title search fees.

We estimate that the average fee for legal research to be $500 plus GST i.e. for five hours of work. We would report to you as to progress if more time is required to complete the work.

All invoices are payable within 7 days of the date of the invoice unless mutually agreed otherwise.

File Summaries

If you do not have time to sort, read and assess a client file, we also provide a file summarizing service also at a rate of $100 per hour plus GST. Please see the “Documents” key for an  example of our file summarizing format.

The client file can be either posted to our PO Box 700, Paraparaumu 5032 or emailed to us at kwestmoreland@outlook.co.nz if in electronic format.

We estimate this service to be calculated at $400 plus GST i.e. for 4 hours of work, including organizing file in chronological order (1 hour), preparing file summary and reporting by email/post (3 hours).

Here, disbursements will also apply as defined above.
